A bit about the walk

The Grand Randonnée 10 is a long distance hiking trail that runs the length of the Pyrenees Mountains. It closely follows the French/Spanish border, virtually all in France, but with occasional and very brief crossings into Spain. It is about 950kms long, and involves about 55,000m of ascent & descent (I've approximated these figures as they vary in Guide books but I aim to map my own journey distance and topography with daily GPS records! I will include any extra side peaks randomly climbed, as well as any times I might get lost!!).

The GR10 winds its way westward from Hendaye on the Atlantic's Bay of Biscay, to Banyuls-sur-Mer on the Mediterranean Sea. The journey is varied - from the steep rolling hills of the Basque Country, through the rugged limestone terrain and peaks of the High Pyrenees, into the deep valleys and spectacular Alpine terrain of the remote Ariège and finally the Mediterranean approach through the Canigou massif.

A tiny bit about me!

I was born in Chingola, Zambia on the 20th September 1976. My Scottish dad was a doctor and my English mum a nurse in the Copperbelt mining industry. Both worked there long-term and I was fortunate to spend the first eight years of my life growing up there. So, although I'm identified by a British passport, I identify within myself as Zambian with British parents!

Still thinking about the rest!
